Gold jewellery wins awards from AGTA

A number of gold jewellery designers and products have won accolades from the American Gem Trade Association (AGTA).

The organisation's 2010 Spectrum Awards in New York saw goldsmith Lilly Fitzgerald win the Best Use of Colour and Classical prizes for a 22-c yellow gold necklace featuring sapphire cabochons.

Los Angeles designer Victor Velyan won the Fashion Forward award for a 24-c gold bangle, while an 18-c gold bracelet set with a variety of gemstones designed by Ariane Zurcher achieved first place in the Business/Day Wear category.

Among the judges were Cecelia Bauer, gem artist John Hatelberg, Nicole Keating of W magazine and Benjamin Macklowe of the Macklowe Gallery.

Earlier this month, the Jewelry Information Center announced that it is to give the Style award to former secretary of state Madeleine Albright at its GEM Awards in January.

Ms Albright is known for wearing gold and other brooches that reflected her views on certain issues while serving in Bill Clinton's administration.
